Wednesday, April 21st, 2010Easter is one of those religious holidays that a lot of people could really get into without even being part of the religion that celebrates it. For those of you who are hazy on the details, Easter celebrates the Christ rising from the grave after being deceased for two days (many say that he is dead for three, but since he died on a Friday and rose again on a Sunday, he would technically be dead for only two days, so there). As part of the celebration, there will be the use of such powerful iconography like the Easter bunny and, my personal favorite, the Easter eggs; both of them are somehow linked to the idea of new life or perpetual life, though it must be said that these symbols are more pagan than Catholic and the Catholic Easter celebration has nothing to do with bunnies and eggs – but everyone seems to favor the iconography anyway. That being said, Easter is all about the celebration of life – new or otherwise.
